Smoke Bomb and Knife Attack Kill Three on Taipei Metro

A knife-wielding attacker killed three people and wounded at least one other in a rampage across two Taipei metro stations on Thursday. The assailant first released a smoke bomb at the city's main station, causing panic, before moving to a nearby station and stabbing victims.
Police arrested a man in his 40s at the scene. His motive is not yet known. The attack did not involve firearms or explosives beyond the initial smoke device.
Taipei Metro is one of the world's busiest transit systems. While major violent crime is rare in Taiwan, the incident has shocked the public. Security has been increased across the network as the investigation continues.
