France has sharply criticized the United States for imposing sanctions on two more officials from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The French Foreign Ministry stated the sanctions undermine a fundamental legal principle. "These measures are contrary to the principle of judicial independence," a ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.
The U.S. action targets ICC prosecutors investigating alleged war crimes. Washington opposes the court's jurisdiction over American citizens.
This is the second time the U.S. has sanctioned ICC staff. France, a strong supporter of the court, called for the sanctions to be lifted immediately.
The dispute highlights a major transatlantic divide over international law and accountability.
