A couple’s Christmas holiday in Thailand turned into a fight for survival after a simple meal went wrong. The likely culprit was a delicious fish stew from a street vendor on Ko Phi Phi island. Fifteen hours later, the husband and wife were severely ill with food poisoning. Despite this, they decided to continue with their planned boat tour for "deep-water soloing." This is an activity where people climb limestone cliffs and jump into the sea without ropes. Their decision was a mistake. Weak from illness, they completed the jumps but were then stranded on their long-tail boat in suddenly rough waters. They huddled together under a blanket, rocking in the waves, and full of regret. The couple, who visited in 2014, now say they can smile about the ordeal. But at the time, it was a terrible Christmas Day.
