US first lady Melania Trump has brokered a coming local ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the war-ravaged city of Oleshky, the White House announced on Friday. The truce aims to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and the evacuation of civilians.
The localised ceasefire is set to begin Thursday. In a news release, the first lady said the situation in Oleshky is “on the brink of disaster.”
The White House said Melania Trump initiated the discussions. She and a representative worked to secure the agreement, according to the announcement.
