President Donald Trump has launched an investigation into America's food supply chain. He signed an executive order on December 6 creating a new government group.
The group is called the Food Supply Chain Security Task Force. Its job is to look for illegal activity that may be raising costs for consumers.
The task force will specifically investigate price-fixing and anti-competitive behavior. Price-fixing is when companies illegally agree to set prices instead of competing. Anti-competitive behavior includes any actions that unfairly reduce market competition.
The order directs the task force to identify any such problems within the industry. The goal is to protect American consumers from unfairly high food prices.
