Spotify is placing a major bet on artificial intelligence agents — and it wants those agents to choose Spotify.
Co-CEO Gustav Söderström explained that as AI agents become more common, they could actually help the music service rather than hurt it. AI agents are software programs that act on a user's behalf, making choices and completing tasks automatically.
The idea is simple: if an AI agent is picking music for a user, Spotify wants to be the service that agent selects. That makes Spotify's position stronger as more listening decisions get handed off to AI.
Söderström's comments signal that Spotify sees AI agents as an opportunity, not a threat. The company is positioning itself to be the music service that agents choose.
