EU Awards Rights Prize to ICC Days After Trump Sanctions

The International Criminal Court (ICC) and its officials have won the European Union's top human rights award, the Sakharov Prize, an EU official announced Thursday.
The honor comes just days after the Trump administration imposed sweeping new sanctions on the ICC. The measures are part of a US campaign to dismantle the tribunal, which has investigated the United States and its allies, including Israel.
"The European Union is built on respect for multilateralism and international institutions," the official said, affirming the EU's support for the court.
