Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced R10 billion in temporary fuel levy relief on Wednesday, aiming to ease pressure on South African households. The measure reduces the fuel levy — a tax added to every litre of fuel sold — for a limited period.
However, the relief comes with a warning. National Treasury has lowered its economic growth forecasts and cautioned that the revenue gains from the relief will be short-lived. The government must still balance support for households against a weaker fiscal outlook.
