Madagascar’s forests are disappearing. Since 1990, the country has lost more than a quarter of its forest cover.
A rare wild pepper is adding to the damage. Voatsiperifery grows on vines that reach high into the forest canopy. It sells for up to 200 euros per kilogram.
To reach the pepper, harvesters tear down trees.
