One in four Americans has been a victim of package theft, according to recent data. This means approximately 64 million people have had deliveries stolen from their homes.
Now, one police department is fighting back with a creative sting operation. The Orange County Sheriff's Office in Florida is placing decoy packages on porches. These fake boxes look like they are from major retailers like Amazon.
However, the boxes contain tracking devices. When a thief takes the decoy, deputies can follow the signal and make an arrest.
Authorities report that package theft is a frequent problem. In fact, about 9 million adults have had a package stolen in the last three months alone. This new tactic aims to reduce that number by directly targeting the criminals.
