Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says two oil tankers caught fire after striking naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC described the vessels as "violating" — a term it uses for ships it considers to be acting against Iranian rules in the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow channel through which a large share of the world's oil passes. Incidents there often raise concerns about global energy supplies and maritime security.
The IRGC did not immediately provide further details on the ships, their crews, or the extent of the damage. No casualties have been reported so far.
