Florida executed Frank Walls on Wednesday for a 1987 double murder. The execution marks the 19th carried out by the state this year. That number gives Florida the most executions of any U.S. state in 2023. Walls was convicted of killing U.S. Airman John B. Hied and his girlfriend, Linda L. Moore. The murders happened during a home invasion in Escambia County 36 years ago. The execution by lethal injection was carried out at Florida State Prison. Officials pronounced Walls dead at 6:15 p.m. Florida's 19 executions this year are part of a significant increase in state killing. Texas, which often leads the nation, has executed eight people in 2023.
