The U.S. ambassador to Israel has called on Israeli authorities to prosecute those responsible for what he described as an "act of terror" against an American photographer in the West Bank.
Heidi Levine was covering the Palestinians' annual olive harvest when Israeli settlers attacked her, according to witnesses. The settlers beat her and stole her passport, telephone, wallet, and equipment.
Levine was taken to a hospital with broken vertebrae. She is now in moderate condition.
The olive harvest has been repeatedly disrupted by Israeli settlers, witnesses say.
