Israeli settlers attacked a convoy of European diplomats in the West Bank on Saturday and beat a visiting French mayor, according to witnesses. The attack came as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned of a growing "crisis" in the territory, one day after an American photojournalist was injured in a separate violent assault.
The mayor, 78, said masked settlers shouted defamatory comments about France, kicked him, and struck him with iron bars. He was accompanying Palestinian olive farmers in the West Bank at the time of the attack.
