A sudden power outage left a busy Hong Kong neighborhood in darkness on Thursday afternoon. About 5,000 households in densely populated Kowloon City were affected.
The blackout caused traffic lights to fail and trapped people in elevators. Police received the first report at 4:18 p.m., noting people were stuck in a lift at a darkened shopping mall.
Authorities later classified that incident as "assistance not required." A second report was filed with police at 5:04 p.m. as the outage continued.
Power was restored shortly after. The cause of the outage is under investigation.
