President Donald Trump has paused a major new sanctions package targeting the Russian economy. He told Congress the decision was in the national interest.
In an executive order on Friday, the president waived many sanctions, restrictions and duties on Russia. The legislation had been passed by both chambers of Congress.
The move comes as Trump has publicly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He has suggested that Ukraine needs a new leader.
