Mickalene Thomas Rewrites Art History in Paris Landmark

A major new exhibition in Paris is celebrating the groundbreaking work of American artist Mickalene Thomas. The show, titled "All About Love," has opened at the Grand Palais. It presents 20 years of her striking creations. Thomas is famous for using materials like rhinestones, acrylic, and enamel to create vibrant portraits and interiors. Her multi-disciplinary work, which includes photography and video, actively rewrites the role of Black women in art history. She presents them as powerful, complex figures of beauty and authority. In a separate festive event, the Palace of Versailles has launched a special Christmas show. It imagines how the holidays were celebrated inside the court of King Louis XIV in the 17th century.
