Atlético Madrid narrowly avoided a major upset to advance in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday. They defeated third-tier side Baleares 3-2 in a tense Round of 32 match.
French star Antoine Griezmann was the hero for Atlético. He scored the opening goal in the 16th minute and a crucial second in the 72nd.
Baleares, however, refused to surrender. They equalized twice, with their second goal coming late in the game to make the score 2-2.
Atlético's winner came from an own goal. A Baleares defender accidentally turned the ball into his own net during a goal-mouth scramble.
The victory sends Atlético Madrid into the tournament's Round of 16. The Copa del Rey is Spain's premier domestic cup competition.
