A South Korean container ship has completed a trial voyage through the Arctic, testing a faster alternative to the Suez Canal as Middle East conflict disrupts global shipping.
The PanStar Acro made the round trip to Europe in less time than the conventional route, officials said. The Arctic path is opening up as melting sea ice creates new passages.
But the shift has raised concerns. More traffic could speed up ice loss in the region. The route may also put operators at risk of sanctions violations.
