Indonesia’s state-owned air navigation provider, AirNav Indonesia, presented its archipelagic Free Route Operations (FRTO) system to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
FRTO allows aircraft to choose more direct flight paths instead of following fixed routes. This can shorten travel distances, save fuel, and reduce emissions.
The system is designed for countries made up of many islands, like Indonesia. It aims to make flights more efficient across large sea areas.
AirNav presented the system at an ICAO event, highlighting its potential for other archipelagic nations.
