US forces attacked and destroyed a boat accused of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Wednesday, killing four people on board.
The strike occurred the same day the US House of Representatives rejected a measure to limit President Donald Trump’s authority to use military force against foreign drug cartels.
US Southern Command stated the vessel was operated by "narco-terrorists" on a known trafficking route. The term "narco-terrorist" refers to groups that use drug trafficking to fund terrorism.
The military released a video showing a boat moving through water before an explosion. It did not provide further evidence to support its allegations about the boat's activities.
The incident is part of a long-standing US military mission to intercept drug shipments in international waters.
