Trump to Tech: Drop 'AI' or Be Called 'The Enemy'
Donald Trump wants the tech industry to stop saying "artificial intelligence." He prefers "super intelligence," or "SI." Now, some major executives are following his lead. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said Friday that his company's AIForce platform will be renamed SIForce. "The era of Super Intelligence is here. AIForce is officially SIForce," Benioff wrote on X. The move follows Elon Musk's pledge on Sunday to rename SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI. Together, the two announcements give Trump's campaign to replace "artificial intelligence" with "super intelligence" momentum beyond Washington. Trump is turning his word choice into a loyalty test. "The White House considers anyone that uses the term, 'Artificial Intelligence,' as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, 'Super Intelligence,' THE ENEMY!" Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday. The warning escalates a push Trump formalized in a September 29 executive order. That order directs federal agencies to use "Super Intelligence" and "SI" instead of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" in official communications, websites, reports, and policy documents, where the law allows. Private companies are not required to follow the order. But Benioff's announcement and Musk's proposed rebrand show the president's preferred language is spreading into corporate branding. Salesforce's change applies to its agent platform, not the company's corporate name. The administration argues that AI has outgrown its name. The executive order says today's systems increasingly amplify human creativity, and that "Super Intelligence" better captures their potential. The rebranding push creates problems for companies whose names include AI. It also raises a question: what counts as superintelligence? The term generally describes systems far more capable than humans across a wide range of tasks. Renaming existing products does not prove they meet that standard. OpenAI, Scale AI, Character AI, and Resolve AI did not respond to requests for comment.
