TSMC to Bring World's Most Advanced Chip Tech to Arizona

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will install its most sophisticated manufacturing tools in Arizona next summer. The move is a significant step for the U.S. effort to produce advanced semiconductors domestically.
The tools are for making 3-nanometer (3nm) chips. A nanometer is one-billionth of a meter. Smaller nanometer sizes mean more powerful and efficient chips, used in everything from the latest smartphones to artificial intelligence systems. TSMC’s 3nm process is currently the most advanced in high-volume production.
This installation in Phoenix marks a key milestone for TSMC’s two Arizona factories, or "fabs." The first fab is scheduled to begin production of less advanced 4nm chips in 2025. The second fab, now confirmed for 3nm chips, will start production in 2028.
The expansion strengthens the U.S. supply chain for critical technology. It also positions Arizona as a major global hub for leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing.
