Ahmed Ishtaiwi has six chairs. They are cheap, plastic and battered. But for the 43-year-old driver and mechanic, they are among his most valuable possessions. Three years after the 7 October attacks by Hamas and the Israeli offensive that followed, Palestinians in Gaza say their lives have changed beyond recognition. Many describe an existence that is neither war nor peace — amid disease, despair and ruins. Ishtaiwi's story reflects that reality. His six chairs, worn as they are, remain one of the few things he has left.
