American military personnel have deployed to Ecuador. They will assist the country in a major operation against powerful drug cartels.
Ecuador’s President, Daniel Noboa, requested the support. He is battling extreme violence that has made Ecuador one of South America’s most dangerous nations. It was once considered one of the safest.
The cartels use Ecuador’s ports, especially Guayaquil and Manta, to ship drugs overseas. These ports are now major exit points for cocaine produced in neighboring Colombia and Peru.
The U.S. Embassy confirmed the deployment. It stated the troops will provide training and logistical support to Ecuadorian forces. The operation is focused on port security and counter-drug activities.
This cooperation highlights the growing international concern over Ecuador’s security crisis.
