The European Commission is considering a pause on part of its major methane regulation, set to start in January. The decision follows pressure from rising energy prices and political leaders.
French President Emmanuel Macron asked the Commission to postpone new methane reporting rules and soften other fuel-related measures. He made the request in a September 18 letter.
The methane regulation is a key part of the EU's climate plan. Any delay would mark a shift as the bloc balances climate goals with energy costs.
