Israel's military chief has declared a "yellow line" in Gaza to be a new border. The line was originally part of a proposed ceasefire plan in October.
General Eyal Zamir made the announcement on Monday. The boundary now blocks Palestinians from accessing 58% of the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials say their forces are deployed according to the ceasefire outline.
On the ground, the line has become deadly. Palestinians report being shot when approaching the area. The Guardian's chief Middle East correspondent, Emma Graham-Harrison, describes a life of confinement for those forced into an ever-smaller part of their land.
The "yellow line" was first proposed in a peace plan by former US President Donald Trump.
