More than 300 women have filed a legal complaint against Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's president. The lawsuit comes after a video showed her using a sexist insult against feminist protesters.
The incident happened at a theatre in Paris. A video recorded Mrs. Macron calling the protesters "sales connes," which translates directly as "dirty stupid bitches."
The complaint accuses the first lady of public insult. It was organized by women's rights groups.
The number of complainants is 343. This figure is historically symbolic in French feminism, referencing a famous 1971 manifesto signed by 343 women who admitted to having illegal abortions.
