Sweden's Left Alliance Cracks: Social Democrats and Left Party in Open Conflict

Sweden's political left is splitting. The Left Party (V) has announced it will support the Moderate Party's candidate for Speaker of the Riksdag. In response, Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson has returned her mandate to explore forming a government.
The move signals a serious breakdown between the two parties, which have long cooperated on the left. The Speaker vote is typically a test of bloc unity. By backing the Moderates' candidate, V is effectively siding with the right on a key procedural vote.
Andersson's decision to hand back the exploratory mandate means she cannot currently build a governing coalition. The question now is whether the rift between S and V can be repaired — or whether it marks a permanent break.
