The average price of diesel at UK forecourts has reached an all-time high of 199.18p a litre, driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The previous record was 199.09p in June 2022, set after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Prices could soon pass £2 a litre after Donald Trump rejected Iran's proposal for a seven-day peace deal. That deal would have reopened the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for oil and gas.
