Drone Wars: Ukraine and Russia Race for Air Supremacy

The war in Ukraine is changing. What started with tanks and artillery now centers on a new generation of long-range drones. Both sides are racing to build and deploy these weapons, targeting military, industrial, economic, and civilian sites. On a rainy night, a Ukrainian ground crew prepares for a mission. They work under dim green and red lights to avoid detection. Their weapons: Fire Point FP-2 drones. These small monoplanes have a 6-meter wingspan and carry more than 100 kilograms of explosives. The target is occupied Luhansk, over 200 miles away. The drone's piston engine sounds like a scooter. But its launch booster is different. The jet roar is almost painful.
