The African Union (AU) will push for a stronger voice at the United Nations this year. Its main goal is permanent African representation on the UN Security Council.
The AU will make this case at the UN General Assembly meeting. The Security Council is the UN's most powerful body. It currently has five permanent members: the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom.
Africa has no permanent seat, even though the continent has 54 countries.
