Damascus, Dec. 16 - The Syrian government is developing a new professional code of conduct for journalists. Information Minister Hamza al-Mustafa announced the plan on Saturday.
The move follows renewed public debate about Syria's cybercrime law. The 2022 law has raised concerns about its effect on free expression.
Minister al-Mustafa said recent online discussions revealed "shortcomings" in the law. These talks focused on how to stop content that incites violence. The new code aims to address these gaps.
The government says the code will balance professional freedom with social responsibility. It is presented as a guide for journalists operating under the existing cybercrime legislation.
