New evidence suggests Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group is trying to hide evidence of mass killings. Researchers at Yale University say they have seen satellite images showing the burial and burning of bodies in el-Fasher.
The city is the last major army stronghold in the Darfur region. It has been under a violent siege by the RSF for months.
The Yale Humanitarian Research Lab analyzed the images. They show what appear to be large, fresh graves at two locations. The images also show burn marks consistent with the destruction of bodies.
The researchers say the activity matches the timing of reported attacks on civilians. This includes a major assault on a residential area on June 6.
The RSF has not commented on the allegations. The group has repeatedly denied targeting civilians in the past.
The United Nations has warned of a high risk of genocide in the region. This new evidence adds to international concerns about possible war crimes.
