South Korea's AI for All: Vision or Risk?

South Korea wants to give everyone free access to artificial intelligence. The country calls the plan "AI for All." But as the government pushes forward, some of the biggest names in the technology warn that AI could pose serious dangers to humanity. In Silicon Valley, the people who build AI are increasingly worried about what they are creating. Dario Amodei, CEO of the AI company Anthropic, wants the industry to slow down. A former engineer at his company, who also worked at rival OpenAI, quit earlier this month. He told reporters he was "genuinely frightened" that unchecked AI development might mean "we could all die in the immediate future." Even Geoffrey Hinton, the Nobel Prize-winning computer scientist, has raised alarms. Their warnings stand in sharp contrast to South Korea's ambitious plan to put AI into the hands of every citizen.
