Poland has arrested two men after Ukrainian citizens were assaulted on a public tram in the city of Poznań. Police confirmed the incident on December 14.
The attack began with verbal abuse before turning violent. Both suspects are 27 years old.
In response, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, has issued a direct order to his consuls in Poland. He instructed them to provide all necessary assistance to the victims. Consuls are also ordered to ensure Polish prosecutors fully investigate the crime as a possible hate crime.
This incident occurs amid reported tensions in Poland over Ukrainian grain imports and trucking disputes. Some observers note these tensions have occasionally fueled local anti-Ukrainian sentiment.
