Norway's national oil company, Equinor, is facing a £53 million penalty. The fine is for years of oil spills and gas leaks at its Mongstad refinery.
The country's economic crime agency, Økokrim, accuses Equinor of "extensive and long-term pollution." Officials state the problems resulted from years of inadequate maintenance at the site.
The Mongstad refinery is a major facility on Norway's North Sea coast. It is the country's only refinery.
