Poll: Europeans Believe Most Migrants Are Illegal, Demand Deportations

A new seven-country survey reveals a widespread misperception about migration in Europe. Many people incorrectly believe most migrants in their country are undocumented, or "illegal." The YouGov poll, conducted in Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, found strong opposition to increased migration. Between 44% and 60% of respondents in each country said they think more migrants are staying illegally than legally. The survey also shows significant public support for reducing migrant numbers. This includes backing for deportations, where people without legal permission to stay are sent out of the country. The findings highlight a major gap between public perception and official statistics on legal migration status.
