US-sanctioned Chinese companies are increasing their use of open-source research to innovate and reverse-engineer restricted foreign technology, according to a new study.
The study found a 72 percent surge in scientific literature citations in their patent applications.
The United States says it expanded its Entity List to protect national security and maintain its technological advantage.
However, an analysis of Chinese patent filings over the 12 years until 2022 shows that US restrictions on access to technology may have accelerated this trend.
