AI Threatens Junior Jobs as Hong Kong Hiring Set to Rise
Nearly one-third of companies in Hong Kong plan to hire more staff in the coming quarter. However, artificial intelligence (AI) is now threatening many junior-level positions. This finding comes from a new survey by human resources firm ManpowerGroup. The company interviewed 506 Hong Kong businesses in November. Overall, 31% of firms said they will increase hiring. Yet the professional, scientific, and technical services sector expects to cut jobs. Companies in this field are rapidly adopting AI technology. The automation is most likely to replace tasks performed by junior staff. The report highlights a split in the job market. While many businesses seek more workers, AI is changing the type of employees needed. Roles that involve routine tasks are at the highest risk.
