Hong Kong customs have seized HK$256 million (US$32.9 million) worth of suspected cocaine. The drugs were found in a secret underwater compartment built into a large cargo ship.
This is the first time authorities have discovered such a smuggling method. The operation last month used intelligence from mainland China and underwater robots.
Investigators believe the ship was meant to be a huge floating storage site for drugs. The secret compartment was accessed from inside the ship's hull below the waterline.
Customs Drug Investigation Bureau head Lau Yuk-lung said the find stopped a major supply chain. No arrests have been made yet, but the investigation is ongoing.
