Scientists say global heating likely weakened the glacier that collapsed in August, causing catastrophic floods in Nepal and Tibet. The first scientific study of the disaster found unusually warm conditions before the collapse.
The glacier released 110 million cubic metres of snow and ice into the valley below. This triggered flash floods on an almost unprecedented scale, hitting communities downstream without warning and killing more than 1,300 people.
