Finland Rules Out Troops for Ukraine, Backs New Security Pact
Finland will join a group of Western nations creating long-term security arrangements for Ukraine. However, its prime minister has clearly ruled out sending Finnish or European troops to fight in the war. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo confirmed Finland’s participation in the agreement. The pact, led by the United States, aims to provide Ukraine with lasting military and financial support against Russia. “We are not discussing sending troops to Ukraine,” Orpo stated. He emphasized that no decision on deploying European soldiers had been made. The security arrangements focus on commitments for future aid, training, and weapons supply. They are designed to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses for years to come. Finland, which shares a long border with Russia, joined NATO last year. Its involvement in the Ukraine pact signals continued Western solidarity, but within strict limits.
