Iran and Saudi Arabia Clash at Beijing Security Forum
A Beijing security conference became the stage for a tense exchange on Wednesday. A senior Iranian defence official and a Saudi think tank chief openly accused each other over the conflict in the Middle East. The confrontation took place at the Xiangshan Forum. It happened in the same city where Iran and Saudi Arabia signed a peace deal just a few years ago. Prince Turki al-Faisal, chairman of the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, accused Iran of failing to respect “the sovereignty of the Arab states.” The Iranian official responded in kind, turning the plenary session into a heated back-and-forth.
