US diesel prices reached a record high of nearly $6.27 a gallon on Tuesday, adding pressure on President Donald Trump before the midterm congressional elections.
Prices have climbed sharply as Washington's war with Iran disrupts global fuel supplies.
Trump has repeatedly played down the war's impact on fuel costs. Instead, he blames Kyiv for its attacks on Russian oil refineries.
