Norway school bans Meta glasses over privacy fears

A Norwegian municipality has issued an immediate ban on Meta glasses in all its schools. Fredrikstad municipality announced the temporary ban on its website. It covers both students and staff, in classrooms and on school grounds. The ban applies to all primary and lower secondary schools in the municipality. The local newspaper Fredriksstad Blad was the first to report the story. The municipality says the technology combines a camera, a microphone, and artificial intelligence. It says this raises unanswered questions about privacy, safety, and educational value. Line Lofstad Andersen, the municipal director for schools, said a clear set of rules must be in place before such tools are used around children and young people. The municipality will monitor developments closely and review the ban once national guidelines are available.
