Hong Kong police officers identifying victims of the deadly Tai Po fire are showing remarkable mental strength, according to force psychologists. They say conditions are tougher than in past disasters, yet all officers remain stable.
The fire broke out on November 26 at a rural site. Officers faced a prolonged and difficult recovery operation.
Police clinical psychologist Michael Fung Ho-kin said his team provided support before, during, and after the task. The psychological services group monitored officers closely.
"So far, none have required clinical treatment," Fung said. He called their resilience "unprecedented" compared to other major incidents.
The psychologists credit this to proactive mental health strategies deployed early in the operation.
