AI bootcamps target UK youth unemployment

A pilot project in Preston is using AI training to tackle two major economic challenges at once: artificial intelligence (AI) and youth unemployment. At a youth centre opposite Preston bus station, the UK government has launched an "AI bootcamp" for people aged 16 to 24. The course is part of a trial in the north-west of England. The programme focuses on Neets – young people not in education, employment, or training. After completing the three-week course, participants are offered an apprenticeship. The project is based at the Vault, a recently opened community hub in the Lancashire city. The government hopes the training will help solve youth unemployment, rather than make it worse through AI.
