Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Saturday called on artificial intelligence companies to slow down development of the powerful technology. His comments come amid growing worries about the risks of "superintelligent" computer systems—machines that could think and improve themselves beyond human control.
The statement followed the departure of AI researcher Jacob Coxon from Anthropic. Coxon had recently left OpenAI to join Anthropic, but then decided to leave the industry entirely. He accused both US companies of "gambling with our lives" in the race to build models capable of self-improvement.
