Iraq closes Iran border after Saudi pipeline drone attack

Saudi Arabia temporarily shut down its main East-West oil pipeline after a drone attack from Iraq. Several people were wounded. An Iraqi military commander has been removed from his post. Iraq's prime minister's office confirmed Saturday that the recent drone attacks on Saudi Arabia were launched from Iraq. The dismissed commander led operations in Maysan province. Iraqi forces are now hunting the attackers. They have closed the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran to stop them from fleeing across the border, Reuters reports. The 1,200-kilometer pipeline carries oil across Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea. According to Reuters, it has become more important because of restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. It is not known if the pipeline is operating again. The attack comes as the Iran-backed Houthi movement advances in Yemen and threatens to strike Saudi ships.
